How Wi-Fi Roaming Really Works
We all want Wi-Fi roaming to be seamless, but that just isn’t always the case. To get a better idea of what happens when a Wi-Fi client roams, I did some testing to see what the packets and protocols really do. The actual handoff from one access point to another is generally fast, but the overall roaming process can add lots of latency to wireless applications. For details, see the tutorial that we posted. Identifying SNR range boundaries for signal coverage
One of the most important aspects of planning the installation of wireless access points is to identify the SNR (signal-to-noise) value that defines the range boundary for signal coverage. This SNR value will provide the basis for “good” and “bad” signal coverage areas. When performing a RF site survey and testing signal coverage, you need to know the SNR value that defines the boundary so that it’s possible to determine optimum installation locations for access points. You can learn how to do this by reading our corresponding tutorial. Read More...

Common wireless network deployment risks
In
the past years, I’ve been involved with wireless networks for many
different venues, including hospitals, airports, universities, and
enterprises. I’ve been seeing a trend of mistakes that companies
deploying wireless networks make. Unclear requirements, RF interference,
security weaknesses and non-optimal application interfaces are leading
problems. You can view more details about these types of deployment
risks in our tutorial. Read More...
